Hello, thank you for taking the time to read. I’m currently in the process of making a quilt for a friend’s first baby about to be born.
I’m a 33y/o male and this is my first time doing any of this, so please be easy on me. Haha
What I’ve done so far:
I’ve hand dyed the LINEN green. And because of the hot water I dyed it in and also washing it afterwards I have shrunk the linen at what I assume full capacity.
I then sewed together panels using a thick polyester green thread.
I but the two layers and a natural COTTON BATTING together. I DID NOT preshrink the cotton batting.
I then hand embroidered the name with 0 cotton embroidery floss (doing a chain stitch) on what I believe is MUSLIN. I did not preshrink the muslin or the floss.
I then did big quilting stitches with 0 COTTON embroidery floss.
I suppose my question is should I add more big stitch quilting? I added a photo on where I plan to put it but here is a brief explanation:
I would do a big stitch line through the two narrow rectangles on the sides and the two narrow center ones. I would also another rectangle between the two rectangles (so two extra rectangles).
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: Can I wash it!? And what will happen if I do? And if I can can I machine wash it and/or can I use warm/hot water?
Thank you!
Please ask any questions you’d like.
