Where can I find legitimate overseas volunteer programs?

I’m an 18(m) living in the USA and I want to travel overseas to offer help to those in need. Thing such as refuge support, teaching, community development etc.

I have looked a lot to these find opportunities, but I’ve been told many companies are only focused on profit and not offering any real opportunities.

To anyone who has volunteered overseas and felt they were able to make a difference, could you please tell me how you were able to do so, and what programs and or groups helped you achieve this?
