I recently found out that I am CMV negative. I was SURE I'd had some previous exposure (it's so prevalent!), and am a bit bummed about the results. We want to choose a donor that matches my partner's ethnic background, and pretty much all of the available samples at the bank we want to use come from CMV donors.
I did a bit of research and can't find any cases of a woman who contracted CMV from donor sperm. Everything I've read says they generally contract the virus through contact with baby/toddler saliva/fluids while pregnant. I discussed with my doctor, who agreed that the risk was negligible, and that we should be okay to use a CMV donor. It sounds to me that this is more of a cryobank CYA type situation because the risk isn't confirmed to be 0%.
I know this topic has come up on the board, but I'd love to hear some CMV mismatch success stories if they are out there!
