Hi friends,
I (mtf, she/her, 29, 1 year HRT) banked three times before starting hormones last year. I banked a total of 32 vials, with an average of 9M per vial and 35% motility rate.
My partner (AFAB, she/her, 30) and I had a consult with Shady Grove where they told us that we’d have to use one ejaculate per IUI, or about 10 of my vials. We are shocked. Had we known it was one IUI try per ejaculate, I would’ve banked 10 times as many! Everything online and at the cryobank advised us that we should prepare ~10 vials per kid. Wanting two kids… we figured 32 vials was really good.
At this point in my transition, I’m completely infertile, and can’t temporarily detransition to try and bank more. My partner doesn’t want to do IVF unless she absolutely has to. We’re told we have about 2 IUI attempts before we have to move to IVF, at which point we’ll have as many attempts as we have vials.
can someone please help clarify?
thank you!
