Student:TA ratios in online vs in-person courses?
Post Body

Hi folks,

I just wanted to start a discussion around something I'm noticing as a TA now that we're back in person. I've taught one course numerous times over the course of the pandemic, and it always maintained a 25:1 student:TA ratio. This very felt reasonable and worked well with the hours we were given for marking, tutorial prep, and forum monitoring. The course now has in-person offerings again and the ratio's jumped up to 90:1. I'm working on a second course alongside this, which has always been online, and this is still hovering at a healthy 26:1.

Has it been anyone else's experience that in-person courses have dramatically more skewed student:TA ratios? This is really deterring me from applying for in-person again, despite finding the teaching much more enjoyable.
