I've got one gal, a Falb-fee (and larger than the other girls in the flock) who has been laying up until now... possibly even today, though I didn't see the egg. She's my one holdout as all the other girls have either molted or just plain stopped for the colder weather. However, the last two days, she's been acting SUPER weird. Doing a lot of ululating with her mouth wide open and getting fluffing up when I walk by, running around non-stop attacking the males in particular (who are definitely scared of her), and attacking some of the other girls who get in her way. She's eating and drinking and pooping normally and will stop rampaging long enough to eat a mealworm if offered, but as soon as she's done she goes back to rampaging.
Some of my other girls have been getting very stressed by this behavior and so I've had to move my Falb out to the time-out cage during the latter part of the day, whereupon she continues to make noises at me or anyone who is in the garden at the moment. I haven't seen any of my other girls do this. I thought she was maybe? broody (in this economy)? and I had collected her eggs and possibly disrupted her, but she hasn't gone back to the eggs when I replaced them (in fear of her lol). She also hasn't pecked me at all despite her threat displays and noises. But she is very agitated in general, and I'm worried that there's maybe something I'm overlooking. She's not eggbound or exhibiting any other signs of bodily distress. Perhaps she's just upset that she's stopped laying eggs, or is PMSing (pre-molt syndrome). Any thoughts appreciated!
