Hi all, thanks for your help in the past. I moved my 7 feather-nonsexable Japanese Coturnix quails into an outdoor aviary at 5 weeks old, they're exactly 9 weeks old as of today. They have multiple points of access to clean water, game bird crumbles, are covered from rain, lots of access to daylight all day, and have smaller shelters to hide from wind and each other, have grasses and branches from non-toxic plants in there to hide in... and no eggs yet. Weirdly enough, no crowing yet, even though I've definitely caught one bird in particular going hard with the mating. Two birds I suspect are females had an issue with feathers being pulled from their necks a few weeks ago but they all grew back in. I tried vent sexing them all and NONE of them have the male glands or the toothpaste stuff coming out when I push on the area just to be sure. The only thing I do that is maybe not recommended is I throw in some millet or quinoa once a day just to get them active, though I usually mix it in the soil so they can scratch for it. I also give them a handful of mealworms (or less) maybe once a week. No eggs and no crowing, some mating behavior, but no obvious glands either... any ideas what I'm doing wrong, or do I have some gender non-conforming quails?
