Converting my QNAP NAS to be a small boat anchor. Probably will leave it in RAID 10 configuration, but most likely will unplug from power prior to testing as anchor. Considering using an array of zip ties to secure to boat anchor chain, unless another fixation mount can be determined.
Wondering if QNAP's apps will still be suspect while the unit is under water. I don't know how it could be, considering I don't have a WiFi card and don't plan to include a hard-wire CAT 100 / 1000 cable along with the chain. But the absence of any firewall is troubling. With hidden, embedded credentials, it seems anyone can SSHIT all over my files at any given time.
Anyone have any data input on the QNAP hardware case build and how well it should stand up to marine vs freshwater boat anchor utilizations?
