This is a critical maintenance period to free up some space on the main Postgres server. I don't anticipate lengthy outages during the process, but there may be a couple 15-30 minute windows where the API will be unresponsive.
I'll try to limit the disruption as much as possible. Migrating this 2.6 terabyte database is going to be a bit of a pain in the ass so this is basically "kicking the can down the road" to buy time before I get additional servers.
Basically, what I am going to do is create new Postgresql table spaces and move some of the older comments and submissions to a slower drive to free up space for newer content. The primary Postgresql database server uses 6 SSD's on a ZFS file system in a mirrored RAID (Raid 1).
