Why did Stannis marry Selyse?

For the life of me I can’t understand why Stannis, the lord of Dragon Stone and at the time possibly the heir or second in line to the Iron Throne, would marry Selyse. She was the first daughter of a third son of house Florent. It wasn’t for her looks, love or lands. I also don’t think Robert would arrange the marriage.
