Hey everyone!
My husband and I are first time dog owners with our turning 12 week old Golden Retriever puppy Booker :)
We're hitting week 3 with him living with us and lately he's starting to show a bit of a rebellious streak. I want to mostly chalk it up to him being a puppy who's equally learning what he can get away with but right now for the past two days it's been getting a little out of hand.
Recently Booker had a bout of diarrhea Saturday at midnight. It was most likely from overeating. I was doing training to try and condition him to respond to a clicker and the instructions were basically to do two training sessions of him focusing his attention on me as I click the clicker and reward him with a treat to associate the clicker with a positive experience. The instructions told me to do this 25 times for both training sessions. so that was 50 pieces of kibble I fed him and well he had his first pooping accident in the house because of it.
So he pooped a lot through the night outside. We held off on feeding him for 12 hours to help him work it out his system and prepped him a nice bland meal of boiled white rice and chicken and boy did he love it haha. He was bouncing up and down like nothing was ever wrong.
But he's started to get a little out of control. Originally, my husband was recognized as the Alpha of the household and he was very obedient to Kyle especially when we had to take him outside our apartment to do his business but lately Booker is pulling a lot more, trying to jump for every leaf/cigarette butt/rock on the ground, jumping at every person that passes by or any car that drives by, and sometimes even pulling to the point he stands on his hind legs. There have also been times where I've had to to pull him off the ground cause he was trying to eat something he really shouldn't pull it out of his mouth and he would growl and try to bite my nose in frustration even though what I'm doing is obviously to protect him.
Being a parent is tough haha but I love my baby boy and I want what's best for him. A piece of me thinks this rebelliousness is because we cut him off from treats temporarily while we make sure he's worked through the diarrhea. He still hasn't pooped since 11am on Sunday after we changed his diet to the rice and chicken and I read you shouldn't feed you dog any treats or his normal kibble that caused his problem till he's back to pooping a solid log.
Any help is appreciated folks.
