Finally feeling like I understand this dog.
Post Body

My dog is an 8 month old, unneutered, Jack Chi (probably) mix. I have posted here a lot about his chewing, biting, and a whole bunch of potty training issues.

TL;DR: he had too much energy and being around dogs changed our lives.

My dog is doing SO WELL now!! Heā€™s started doggy daycare and ever since, heā€™s been a totally different dog. He started 8/23 and so far, heā€™s calmer, he doesnā€™t have as much restless or anxious energy, he bites less and heā€™s able to sleep better through the night!

Not only that but he totally surprised me with potty training. I was so worried because he started holding his pee and poop randomly and would for 8 hours at a time! i couldnā€™t figure out why he wasnā€™t going!! I had zero idea what his crying at the door was for, and he wouldnā€™t let me leash him. He even had an accident in his crate!

But imagine me surprised when I woke up one morning and he hadnā€™t gone overnight on the pad (I have those grass things) and he followed me to the door, let me leash him, and did his thing outside. And he did the same thing during the day but let me know he needed to go by standing by my door and giving me a Very Serious Look. He also picked up the difference between me saying letā€™s go potty and letā€™s go for a walk and letā€™s me leash him for walks and waits for potty (weird house layout, he has to be carried outside.)

When I work from home or my days off, we go on our same walks 3-4 times a day, but heā€™s able to hold it until we can go outside. I still try to make that be within 3 hours because of the advice a Redditor gave me that ā€œjust because he can hold it doesnā€™t mean he should.ā€

Heā€™s better in public, friendly and respectful to other pups, feels comfortable with exploring, and itā€™s just been so great to not have to worry about him destroying my pillows or having an accident in his crate.

Ive also been working on more training and commands and heā€™s been doing great. He was getting way too tired so I had the daycare give him naps lol. This way he still hangs with me at home.

This is not a promo I promise but I think I learned a big lesson - the best way to train a dog is to have another dog around him (re: potty training) and that this dude is worth the efforts and adjustments Iā€™ve made in my life and I canā€™t wait for us to have more adventures.

He still gets overexcited with treats and sits, lays down, and jumps up all at once, but thatā€™s just him being cute ā˜ŗļø

TY all for your patience and help!!!
