My puppy arrived 4 days ago and he’s the nicest puppy. He learned to pee and poop right away... or I thought so. He had some accidents, but that’s fine since he’s 8 weeks old. He will be a lap dog, sleep in the bed and everything but he is too small to jump up and down so I put him in his pen with free food and water. I want him to be independent of me during the day. I keep him in the pen during some minutes and hours of the day (grocery shopping, workouts, cleaning, home office).

BUT during the night he cries a lot when he doesn’t get attention and he poops in the wrong place. I live in a studio so I don’t have much space to keep him away from my bed so he knows that I’m there.

Today during the afternoon I wasn’t close to him and he pooped in the wrong place too.

What should I do?

Crate training is a no because he already barks and whines a lot in the pen where he has bed food, water and bathroom.
