She now goes up and down then warily, but willingly, and often without prompting. She prefers the living room couch for lounging, but if I’m in the bedroom working (my desk is in the bedroom), she’ll climb on the bed and hang out.
Here is was worked for me:
I started leaving treats there. First on the low steps, and worked my way to the top, but this only got me so far because she would just disregard the ones she couldn’t reach touching the steps
I carried her on and off the bed before I got the steps because it’s pretty high off the ground. So, I started placing her paws on the stairs for a few seconds on the way on or off the bed. I figured I might be a good way to get her used to the texture. Did that for a week or so
Then I tried again with the treats on the top step and noticed that she VERY warily placed a paw on the bottom step to get the treat. Kept doing that until she was comfortably placing both front paws on the steps
I made a trail of treats from steps to bed, which she rejected. So at bed time I tried the trail again, but this time I carried her to the steps and very gently placed her on the steps so that her front paws were on the steps and her hind legs were on the ground. She kind of just stood there and looked back at me. I gave her tons of positive encouragement, and she made the climb. Did the same thing in reverse for the climb off the bed, and it was s few days of that
Lastly, I did the trail of treats but just encouraged her got it. This last steps took a couple of try’s, but she’s a pro now.
Hope this helps someone that’s dealing with the same issue we had!
