We just had a month from hell

Post Body

Our poor pupper just had an absolute month from hell. We have an absolutely adorable amazing chocolate lab, who is 5.5 months old right now. Does quite amazing, destructed half our house of course, he is just being very much puppy.

We were quite happy when he lost his first tooth at 4.5 months old. Not really early, but quite a normal age to start losing puppy teeth. He lost two, and all was rainbows and good. He lost a few more, and started to get more bitey bitey obviously, so we spoiled him with lots of chews, lots of toys for him to destruct and he did so happily. Then he started having soft poop. Sure, he's teething, can happen, we cooled it down with the chews, consulted the vet and they gave us some easy to digest foods, advised us not to give anything else for a few days, he's probably just growing a bit fast (2 kg a week, not overweight at all), might all be a bit much. Seemed to be doing the trick. That weekend, over 3.5 days he lost 12 teeth in total and was absolutely wrecking anything he could get his teeth on.

Two weeks ago, we started mixing back his food, but before we even properly started, diarrhea. Went back to the vet to test for Giardia, bingo. He got panacur and turned into an absolute terror demon within hours. I literally cried twice that day, because it seemed like he just put his nose in a bag of cocaine. Back to the vet we went, and they gave him some more medication for pain and nausea, which seemed to help... for like twelve hours. So they had us switch back to full on easy to digest food in combination with some iso gel to help with possible irritation of his stomach. Had to go back another time for more nausea medication, but all seemed quite ok again, we were just happy to finish all his medications.

Untill of course a few days later. Back was the diarrhea, together with a heat wave (last heat wave he threw up and had diarrhea as well) and some bald spots on his ear and both my gf and I being sick ourselves. We took him back to the vet once again, and after some checks they are almost 100% sure that next to the heat wave and teething causing discomfort, the Giardia causing discomfort, he's also having a food allergy now. He had a double ear infection, itchiness around his ears, mouth and paws... And possibly still Giardia πŸ˜….

So this poor puppy, in one month time, had to deal with losing most his teeth, Giardia, a food allergy, sick humans Ñnd a heatwave. And he's been such an amazing boy still 😭. We had to obviously throw away his snacks, chews and previous food that has been opened, we threw away most of his toys because he destroyed most of them due to a lack of chews. We are deep cleaning everything again. And this freaking goofball started his hypoallergenic food and went from feeling not well but still trying to be a good boy to a thousand percent good boy who listens, who is happy to go on walks, who is easy to fall asleep and cuddle up with us. He now happily chews his chew toys that he previously almost gave no look at all. I feel so extremely bad for our poor sweetheart, he behaved a bit off but nothing extreme, because there was so much going on 😭, and still so sweet. He is definitely the best pupper, and I just hope for him that this was one month from hell and never again...
