I'm happy to report that my 6 month Olde English Bulldog is doing MUCH better. I've had her for 3 months, and it was heartbreaking to see her be so afraid of anything in the first few weeks. She's always liked meeting people and dogs, but loud, big city noises were very challenging for her. She'd freeze, tremble, and dart off trying to flee. Other times she'd desperately try to hide under parked cars, and forget about walking anywhere but the same route back-and-forth to park.
Thankfully, she's been having very few of those reactions lately, and the few times she does get started, she bounces right back. We've been walking some new routes, and she really seems to be enjoying it. Sometimes a stressor that would have sent her off passes by and she doesn't react. Other times she'll look at me for reassurance, but keep walking rather than spazzing out. Just today, an ambulance rode past us and she maintained eye contact with me almost the whole time it was near us (I was saying "Good girl" repeatedly in a soothing tone).
She's still iffy about new places, and I can only navigate busy streets in small increments with her (a few blocks at time), but at least she's walking!
