I have just learned that one of my dearest friends from high school has lost his battle with cancer and I am just devastated. He was such a brilliant light in my darkest hours. He was always smiling and one of few people I could count on to make me laugh.
I am heartened to know that he was a beloved friend, colleague and teacher. His passing is mourned by so many. I have read many tributes to this fine mine and though my heart is heavy with the loss, I am filled with a sense of joy and pride to know he was so well loved.
That's the kind of man he was. He was always giving of himself. He was a truly genuine person and dedicated to his friends. I always wanted to be more like him. He leaves behind a massive emptiness. There is no one and nothing that can fill his shoes. He was one-of-a-kind. We just need to count ourselves fortunate to have known and loved him — to have been loved by him. Rest in peace, my friend. Your battles are at an end.
