I have been working in inpatient psych as a tech for about 4.5 years now, and I’m currently in nursing school. I work on a bipolar and schizophrenia adult unit - I love it, it’s my people. Recently we’ve been getting an uptick of patients with BPD. I have always struggled when working with BPD, as I started out in a facility that had very rough opinions of patients with BPD. I would love some perspective from staff that work exclusively with the population, or take a keen interest in the population, as to what has worked best for you in your practice. Specifically when managing maladaptive behaviors, and verbal threats towards their safety. I do recognize every patient is different - just looking to do better.
EDIT: Thank you for all of your feedback, and thank you to those who shared very intimate details about their experiences in order to paint a picture for me and others. You’re very strong.

Same. It’s really hard when you are legit suicidal frequently.
