Is levelling metalworking worth at all?

Hiya i've had the game for a week now and i'm getting the hang of it but i'm wondering whether metalworking would be useful in any regard as i saw it made fortifications but i'm unsure if it does anything more due to the wiki being a bit outdated.
The problem is that I have LV 10 carpentry already and I'm wondering if i would even see benefits of it at all
Any advice is welcome!
