I have a question about making a mod.

So pretty much I got an idea for a mod while playing PZ and decided to make it but i cant find some of the information i need to do so. I want the item to only effect people with a certain trait like how cigarettes only effect people with the smoker trait. does anyone know where i can find the code necessary in the main files I can read to figure this out?
