I've had my Optoma UHD 40 (50 in USA) for 3 years and mostly been happy with it, however after a lightning strike fried the 4K input I am now in the market for something new and preferably an upgrade.
I need a throw ratio of around 1.45 for my fixed screen, and this rules out many possibilities.
It will only be for evening use in an untreated (although fairly dark) room. Main usage is Netflix, movies, and Xbox.
The slightly older Optoma's such as the UHD42 are very difficult to find here in Europe, the newer Optoma's throw only start around 1.5, the Benq TK850 has pretty high input lag, the newer W1800i doesn't have 3D... etc etc... and after going though pretty much all the possibilities I'm left with the HT3550. The lag (although not amazing) is on a par with my Optoma UHD40 (which I was happy with) and by all accounts the HT3550 with it's dynamic iris does seem the best option at 1500€ (I'm looking to stay under 2000€) and it also looks on paper to be an upgrade from my UHD 40, albeit at 400 lumens less.
The only thing is that although the HT3550 has held it's price over the last 3 years, it is still 3 years old. If I spend 1500€ on it am I going to regret it in 3 months time if something better might be on the horizon?
