So I currently serve in an IT position that is half technical half project management. I've been at this job for over a year now and I'm honestly burnt out.
No one in my department has any interest in project management of any type despite my boss trying to talk up a big game about how we need to improve.
I feel unwelcomed whenever I bring up anything related to project management
Anything I try and do to get people involved falls on deaf ears and gets ignored.
I get referenced more about my technical work than anything else.
Any "project management" that I do now is just scheduling meetings and forwarding invites.
The real final nail in the coffin was a comment made at lunch along the lines of "You has better keep doing our ERP support because we sure as hell aren't going to do any project management in this department"
I enjoy working at my work, I regularly enjoy working with my co-workers, but anything that is project management related gets tossed aside and disregarded. I don't think I can continue this much longer. I just had my annual review which was favorable, but I am going to ask my boss about moving me to a purely technical role moving forward so that I can be done with this empty burden. I feel like I am giving up and taking the easy way out, but I don't think I can keep this up for much longer.
