Hello, I am new to the game and just started about a week ago. Since so many people ask about this game on the reddit I figured I'd give my two cents here. Spoilers ahead about Gameplay (no lore spoilers).
Review
I'm going to be honest with you, I've owned this game for months and tried to play multiple times. Everytime I'd just get off the island and quit due to not understanding the game. PG isn't WoW, EQ, or any other MMORPG. If I had to compare it to another game I would say OSRS but that doesn't really do it justice.
Things you should know are:
There is little to no direction given by the game/quests.
There is not PvP.
There is an economy, but it mainly revolves around Raw Materials.
Gear that drops is based on the skills that you are using for your Primary/Secondary.
Combat skills only earn you exp if there is an ability on cooldown when the killing blow is dealt.
The game (to me) feels like a single player RPG (or made that way atleast) that you share with other players (though I haven't done a dungeon yet and this could change at higher levels.)
The writing feels at times like it was done by a college stoner.
With that out of the way I can tell you this last time I started I just got hooked. If you want to give this game a shot PLEASE do youself a favor and just go in DEEP. Try all the skills you want, read every book, I promise you this game is a GEM if you give it a chance. The world while large and mostly empty feels very alive. There's always some resource/mob/NPC around the corner even if the map doesn't shows it. The Favor system is really great and reminds me of the old BDO system for NPC relations. You can see the Devs truely care about the game as updates and content feel complete when they hit live. The best feature of this game though has the be the community. I don't think I've met a single toxic player in-game yet. Players are always willing to help if you just ask. Need more milk but all cows are on cooldown? Just ask and someone will milk them for you. Can't buy an Item because it requires a higher favor? As long as its not a taught skill a friendly player will be more than happy to help you out. It really feels like every player wants each other to suceed. New player questions are answered promptly and sometimes will spoiler tags to prevent ruining others experience (there is a big precentage of players that play the game with no outside help like the wiki). The player written books are downright funny as hell. I can't speak highly enough about the player base. The game is still in EA but it shows alot of promise to be a great game for those that crave a different MMORPG experience.
