EDIT: NO NEED FOR ANY MORE REPLIES, THANK YOU FOR THE HELP :)
Thank you so much for all the input, it was all very helpful and I'm pleased to say I'm back to enjoying the game again. I levelled up twice, which made a huge difference, and also got better at using buffs especially. I didn't fully appreciate the importance of ACC so I often use the devotion from the priest at the start, and I'm going to reroll him for the inspiring radiance, which I didn't get, which will help even more. Also getting much better at splitting enemies up and taking them on in smaller groups, either with CC or just kiting. Kiting feels cheap, but it's effective! Thanks again, everyone.
I've loved the game up to this point, and when I went into Act 3 it asked if I wanted to scale up, because my level was higher than this area (most of my team are lvl 10) so I said yes. I've read around online and the Act 3 spike is obviously well known, but the jump in difficulty is SO much that I'm finding myself not very motivated to finish. For example, I'm about to go on a quest somewhere, and the way is barred by a group of beetles and adragans, and they just completely mess me up, no matter what I do, and this is with a priest casting prayers to prevent paralyze. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for me that would help me get through Act 3 that bit easier so I can finish the game, as apparently I'm not too far from the end.
One thing I'm going to do is head back to the endless paths, as I've only gotten down to level 8 or 9 there, so if I go down a bit more I might increase my character level - and I'm going to do as many quests as I can from the Twin Elms area for the same reason, but my ass got kicked that hard that I don't see how much difference 1 or 2 levels will make! Or would it? I've come too far to change it back to standard (as in my save is ages ago) and tbh, I don't want to revert to standard and just waltz through everything.
Any advice much appreciated! (I only have the base game, I don't own TWM).
Just got to level 12 with my main character, and didn't realise it was the maximum (as I don't have TWM). I was so looking forward to seeing those 8th level spells 😥
Yeah I do mix things up as much as I need to, but the spells I use most often with the priest now are the devotion that adds accuracy, the prayer that prevents dominate, consecrated ground, and armor of faith. I also throw in other ones when the need arises.
With my main damage wizard I switch between the fireball, the lvl 6 death cloud or chain lightning, and any of the high level missiles to take down individual enemies quickly.
My CC wizard mainly uses slick, the spell that causes sleep, and the spell that causes confusion.
Great, I've already gained one level since I made this post, and have quite a few quests lined up, so hopefully that'll get me another one and I can take on these battles more effectively. Thanks for the console command as well :)
Ah, so it is just massively punishing no matter what? ☹
Thanks! I've always tried to have a fairly balanced party, but I think they just aren't strong enough yet. I have one fighter and one barb as my tanks / damage dealers, a damage dealing wizard ('me'), a buff/debuff wizard, a priest and a rogue. It's maybe a little lightweight, but it's got me this far! I've never used a single scroll the whole game, so that's something to think about using and see if it tips things in my favour. Thanks! I've managed to get down to level 12 of the endless paths and three of my characters have gone up to lvl 11 so that will certainly help :)
Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely take that on board. To be honest, when I chose to play on hard, and then scaled up, I was expecting it to be a challenge but doable with what I had as long as I used good tactics. But if what you've written above is the level of detail it takes, I don't know if I can be bothered going that far. I'll definitely play through till the end, but the dragons can fuck off. Tried to fight both of them (the one in the endless paths and the one for Nest In The Clouds) and I got absolutely marmalised in both. Having to fight a dragon is hard enough when it's not also surrounded by adragans or blights! Thanks again.
Thanks for the tip, I'd never really considered summons. I already use confusion and I literally just learned gaze of adragan so that should help out as well.
Thanks for this, I do try and make use of CC and not just pummel the enemies with high DPS - using things like slick, or some kind of control or confusion spell. I do need to get better at using my priest though so I'll study him more carefully. I didn't realise about the high level thing being for WM, I'll just need to try and keep levelling up as well as use these other tips.

Thanks for the tips with the priest - I do have some go to spells that I start with but I can't remember their names! I don't actually have grieving mother any more, I killed her because I fucked up her quest line and it was annoying me that it was sitting there never to be completed in my quest list! I had no intention of using her anyway, I like the group that I have and have gotten used to how to work them well together.
