A friend sold me her 02 Honda Shadow 750 Spirit when she decided she was no longer going to ride.
A good deal, too. Less than 4500 miles on the clock, single owner, and she was straight forward that she laid it down high on GHB one night. We agreed on 1800 in payments and lawn care. A bit high for the work it needed, but she needed the money and I was willing to pay a premium to a friend for financing their bike to me.
She hadn't ridden the bike in 5 years when she let me take it home. Coolant was bone dry, rust everywhere, and tires were dry rotted and crumbling. We charged the battery, but it was done for. So, a new battery later, and she fired right up! She blew flames on that first startup (still does, actually).
Rode it for a few days before the fork seals started to leak. Tubes were pitted, so I decided it was time to redo the front suspension. Tore her down. Got new fork tubes, bushings, and seals, and had the fork lowers powder coated.
Here she is, finally back on the ground, after about 8 months (took me a minute to have all the funds together for the suspension rebuild, plus several months lost thinking I was gonna paint those lowers myself) strapped to a Harbor Freight bike jack.
Still got rust all over her, but quite a bit less since I got my hands on her. Got a list a mile long of restorations and modifications I want to do (more than happy to share my list if anyone wants to hear what I have planned).
Sadly, my friend past away a few months ago, and she never got to see the work I did to her baby or have planned(that bike was always her baby and always will be).
