Why Does It Seem Like A lot of Fiscally Conservative Politicians Hate Guns?

The Howard government in Australia,John Kasich here in the US, as well as Ross Perot all seem to hate guns. Even thought they seem reason reasonable on most things, they are staunchly anti-gun. As a fiscal conservative, Libertarian, and someone who cares about the national debt (among other fiscal issues), it is a bit disheartening that many people that are relatively pro-gun don't seem to care about the debt and the other group vice versa. Why do you think this is?
