I feel like most of my life I've been a rebel because of the conservative teachings my stepfather preached. I became one of those ex-muslims who always bring up the negative remarks of Prophet Muhammad and the concept of Heaven was so materialistic, it didn't make sense to me.
I've gotten into the likes of Shamounian and Jay Dyer.
I've spoken to a Syrian coworker of mine, he's much older than I am.. he has spent 25 years in Saudi and some time in Iraq as well. He said the whole thing is complicated but most of the conservative and radical beliefs come from Sunni whereas Shias tend to follow more logic and reasoning.
He recommended I should study more and suggested al-islam.org. Would this be a good resource?
I was thinking if there are any Islamic scholars that aren't inherently biased towards some school of thought?
Are there any tafsir in English translation of the Quran that is simplified and easy to read?
Thank you.
