I do wonder what went on in the evolution that made me enjoy this kind of music. The fact that us humans even enjoy music does not serve any real evolutionary puropse. It seems more a side effect of language.
I have been told by people that I have a very strange taste in music. I really enjoy music from bands like Converge, Dillinger Escape plan and Vldhjarta. Someone told me vildhjarta sounded like insanity.
I am quite calm person, some people were surprised I enjoy this kind of music. But music is so entirely subjective, I have no control really of the kind of music I enjoy. It is almost embarrasing admiting I enjoy this a ton.
I do wonder if there have been done study on personalities and music tastes and where us that enjoy progmetal "fits".
I do enjoy a different music genres, big fan of radiohead and purity ring. But they have not stuck the same with me as converge and dillinger for 10 years. I enjoy the unpredictability and complexity of progmetal, but what does that say about me? Not sure.
Have you ever reflected on what makes you like progmetal and how it says something about as a person?
