So, as a preface, I am very critical of the wrestling I watch, no matter who or where I watch. Yes, i do watch WWE and I find positives and negatives there as well. I am someone who has really felt AEW had a lot of improving to do, particularly in the booking department. I felt that story was desperately lacking up until Dynamite, which made it hard for me to truly enjoy.
I was at Dynamite, where you don't hear commentary. But everything felt like there was story attached, and that it was setting something else up. I know there's a big divide over the Tony khan moment, but at least it's story. The Podcasters Steve and Larson seem to echo my sentiments and also applauded the show. To me, everything clicked and made sense (mostly) and stories flowed. I thought the Willow/Mercedes segment was outstanding.
And yet, some sit here and say it was the worst AEW show in history, but personally, I was thoroughly entertained. I went to Collision as well, and that night seemed to be focused on mostly wrestling, and only a sprinkle of story, and I much preferred Dynamite. I had fun either way, but I found myself just enjoying myself at Dynamite. To be fair though, during Collision, I was sitting next to a fan who seemed to forget how to shower, so that may have played into my bias, but I don't think that was the only reason.
So I just can't figure out why so much hate. I'm not going to sit here and say Dynamite was the greatest show in history, but I really did not think it was awful.
Can someone please explain the hate?
