I received a verification text from Microsoft and hadn't tried to log in, what should I do and what's the best two factor authentication?

This has happened before too, with the verification code and all. I've also had my things hacked before, so I'm on the more concerned side.
I got the text from the number I get my other verification codes from (microsoft, it has a list of old used verification codes and everything) except this one was worded a little different.
What is the most secure two factor method to continue using microsoft? (I need it for school)
