Keyfob range at hatch is annoyingly short when in my purse - how to fix that?

I have a 2007 Prius and I know you guys will think I'm stupid but this has been an irritation since day 1 and I just kept forgetting to ask about how to fix it. FINALLY, after all this time, remembered.

So I keep my keyfob in my purse and only lock/unlock the doors using the door buttons/sensors. The drivers and passenger doors are fine. However, every time I get groceries, I push my cart to the back of the car and attempt to open the hatch.... and have to move my fricking purse about 5 inches from the hatch door before it will sense that it's there and let me unlock it. Is there some way I can extend the range of the hatch to at least 3 feet?
