My 2007 Gen II touring has been a daily driver up and down a vertical 3500 foot commute since I bought it. The battery pack finally failed at 101500 miles, perfectly timed to avoid the 100k warranty. This is rapid compared to many, but not surprising given the way I have been beating the Hell out of the state of charge every day.
I got a quote from my Toyota dealer for nearly $6k (including parts, labor, tax) for a new pack. But it appears the pack is actually quite straightforward to replace, with a couple of socket wrenches and a few simple safety steps in mind. I have ordered one from Napa Auto Parts for $1.1k (with the Good Guy discount) and I'm planning to install it over the weekend.
So ... anyone out there have advice for a first time DIY pack swap?
I'll post a report and pix afterward if there is interest.
Update: it turned out to be no problem at all. It took about 3.5 hours, with plenty of "help" from a young person. (Maybe 2-2.5 without the help). Refurbished pack works fine. No codes, no rapid discharge, no complaints.
