Hey everyone!
I have a 2010 Prius, and recently, the "slippery tire" or "traction control" light (the icon with a car and squiggly lines) has started staying on constantly (no other right is on, just this one). From what I understand, this means there might be an issue with the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) or Traction Control system.
I’d love to avoid a trip to the dealer if possible (and save on the high repair costs). I don’t mind trying a few things on my own, but I’m not exactly a mechanic either.
Has anyone had this issue with their Prius? Any tips on how to troubleshoot or reset the light on my own to see if it’s just a minor glitch?
I've read that it could be related to sensors or maybe even a battery reset, but I’d appreciate any detailed steps or advice on what to try before taking it in. Also, if anyone can recommend an OBD-II scanner that would work well with a Prius, I’d be interested in checking it out. Thanks a ton!
Never Ever go to a Stealership! Find a local reputable mechanic that won’t rip you off. 🙂
Could be a few things: Wheel speed sensor, (replaced 3-4 between a few cars) Wheel speed wiring (replaced once, wire was chaffed and done for) Steering wheel angle VCS (if car is equipped with it) malfunction. Best place to start is an OBD scanner that can pull ABS and airbag codes. O’riley might have one they will let you borrow. Go from there, and see what’s causing the light to come on. 😁

Not on third gen. Only way is to put it into maintenance mode (not recommended for racing or driving in that mode as it disables failsafes.)
