Prospective Prius / Prius C owner here. I'm looking to pick up a cheap and reliable car, and the evangelising on this subreddit has me convinced it should be Prius of some sort.
At the moment, I'm looking at a 2012 Prius C with 200k miles for $5,500 from Facebook Marketplace (see link).
From the reading I've done on here and what I'm seeing in my area (PA near Philly), this seems like a reasonable price. The mileage seems a little high, but the Prius C seems to run forever?
I know this year's Prius has a head gasket issue, but I haven't seen the same mentioned for the C. I'm planning to have a mechanic look it over before buying. I've also got an OBD2 reader coming, so I should be able to check the battery health etc. (I'm happy replacing the battery / cells myself at a later date.)
I'm used to driving small cars on highways (moving from Europe), so I'm not too concerned about slow acceleration etc.
Anything else I should be wary of or look out for? Or any opinions on whether this is a sensible thing to do? (My partner's family tend to think of any car over five-years old as past its reliable phase and is extremely confused by my desire to get an older Prius... Would like to avoid looking like an idiot if at all possible :) )
