OR logic gate

Hi all,
So I'm trying to link a door controller and timer to an OR gate (as inputs), then have the outputs as cell doors, only I can't get the door controller to interface with the OR gate. Is this normal? Also the connect is working if I bypass the OR gate, this looks kinda messy though with all the connect wires passing through the prison.
