Hey ya'll,
I'm new to IT and I just got a job at a school where I mainly run into the common desktop issues. For some reason, we're using really old printers and I've been having the hardest time getting them to unfuck themselves. ALSO for some reason we have those ancient HP P1505n in about every classroom, and they're just a pain to deal with. The trouble begins when printing from them, after connecting to them over the network, I go to print a test page and it starts printing all of its paper. Some even have smoke coming out between the little roller and the paper output tray when it flips out. I did notice that it prints its config page just fine, so this leads me to believe this may be a driver issue. When connecting with a mac, I'm using the LPD driver but, I have tried using the HP jetdirect one as well. When testing with windows, I allow it to select its driver. If I remember correctly, it used the HP universal print driver. I totally want to suggest getting new printers, not for every classroom, but one good machine for each building.
If any tech wizard out there have any knowledge they can share with a young grasshopper on how I can make my situation less stressful, I would greatly appreciate it. So far my only solution is to smash em with a bat.
