Clean water supply

I was trying to think of ways to have a supply of water without needing to use a lot of storage space. I have five 5 gallon jugs that I use daily and refill. This should allow me to purify water from swimming pools or natural water resources (river, etc.) in case we lose access to running water (EMP, etc.). Thoughts?
