Non-doomsday prep question: thoughts on landlines

My first post, so please excuse any errors. I was listening to a post-apocalypse novel, and these two warring ranches use a landline. Just bought my home on the edge of earthquake country. I live alone. It comes with a landline hookup and a cute phonebooth (home was built in the 30s). Is there a reasonable use for getting a line?
I am prepping for things like quakes and tsunamis, not robotic alien elephants taking over..
