It's all well and good to buy whatever you can but one true prepper skill you can't buy is walking your neighborhood. And not just walk it but study it. Who are you neighbors? Which ones hang out front? Who is friendly, who isn't? Who has dogs or cats (or chickens or goats)? Who has fruit trees? Which of your neighbors have work trucks (and therefore skills and tools)? Which have government plates? What times are people around? You might get invited to hangout if you do it enough
Also walking your neighborhood you can learn what are your entrance and exits. How far would it take to get to safety? Do you have paths that are less well known near you? Take an hour a week at least and pick a new route Everytime. Map out your neighborhood in your head. This is especially fun during Halloween or holiday light time.
I've been doing this for a few years, I now know the seasons of much of the fruit trees, I know lots of my neighbors (especially the ones who go on regular walks) and I know how to get out of my neighborhood fast if need be and be entirely across town that would take much longer by car.
Take a walk, the experience may surprise you. If you feel like taking your gobag, even better! Test how it feels going for an hour or longer walk. Catch up on podcasts, get some exercise. Test your shoes for comfort.
We were built for walking!
