Would PA programs look down on working outside of healthcare?

Post Body

Hi all, I am currently an EMT-B for a private ambulance company and it's just not panning out. I like the job and (most) of the people I work with and the patients, but I feel the company has been circling the drain and in my opinion won't be here two years from now. We have half the staff now than we did a year ago when I started. I have gotten a lot of great PCE from this job (about 2500 hrs) but it pays $10 per hour and I have to pull at least 60 hour weeks to make ends meet. I am burnt out, a lot of the staff is. I miss my wife and I only get to see her for maybe a couple hours when I work since I pull 14hr shifts.

I have been looking for jobs but there really aren't any in my state for EMT-Bs, so I have been looking at becoming an LNA since it pays better. I know CASPA sees that as HCE now, but the programs I look at only prefer max 500hrs of PCE. I honestly just need something that brings in more money because I'm 27 and married and cannot support us with $10 and hour. Yes my wife works but shes in a similar situation.

Anyways, what are your thoughts and experiences in this?

Thanks all, this sub is great
