From what I’ve seen, it seems to be this multitude of people who are in it for the money, which is fine, but they’re in it for purely the money, and not the art of editing itself.
I see constant editing for retention rather than story, trying to copy other people’s styles (Iman Ghadzi seems to be one that doesn’t stop), and people trying to get as many clients as humanly possible - everything feels soulless and sad
When will people understand that editing isn’t about having a system to get 70% retention on your videos every time, but telling a really awesome story and using video editing to support it and make people feel something out of the video they just watched?
Interested to hear everyone else’s thoughts
if you tell a great story with 20% retention, means that was not a great story lmao but i get your point but i think you have to separate informational, business, learning videos from artsy storytelling videos. but i'd say retention is important for both, whether its through stupid editing or great cinematography, acting, storyline, whatever. if you make a movie and everybody leaves after 10 minutes, chances are that wasnt a great movie, regardless if you think you did a great job
