Non-trad applicant. Struggling with the "why now" question.

I graduated from undergrad with a non-premed degree like 6 years ago and the real answer to the question of why it took me so long to decide I actually want to pursue this is because I was a dumbass and I was unmotivated and truly just didn't think I could do it.
I guess I just want to know what other non-trads say when they're asked why it took them so long to figure it out.
