Neck fluid at 12 weeks + long test times

Post Body

We had our 12 week appointment today. There was 5mm of fluid at the neck and they said there should be 3mm or less. Because of my age, there's increased risk for genetic abnormalities. They said they need 2 tests to confirm if something is truly wrong, but one of those (the blood test) will take 3-4 weeks to come back. That's a lot longer than either of us thought - of course we hope for results sooner. The other test is basically another ultrasound with a doctor who specializes in high risk pregnancies.

The doctor said to try not to worry until we get the results because it could be nothing, but everything else the doctor said lead me to believe the most likely scenario is that it's a genetic disease like Down Syndrome. Thats what I'm preparing myself for as the most likely result based on the info I got today.

I don't have anyone in my life I can talk to about this so I guess I'm just venting and wondering if anyone else has had this experience and how it went? I'm too scared to google but may try that later.
