Power Director 24 preview playback freezing

Recently PD21 started crashing alot for no reason, so I switched to PD24. It worked well at first but now whenever I add more elements to the timeline (such as pictures, text or transitions) the preview starts skipping ahead or freezing while the audio remains normal. Any fixes for this?
