I work in sales, but over the past few weeks, my performance stats have been struggling. Today, I received a final notice from management, stating that if my stats don’t improve by next week, I will be let go. Realistically, given the current situation, I know my chances of turning things around are slim, and it seems inevitable that I’ll be fired.
However, the work environment here is far from professional. I’ve been subjected to microaggressions related to my race and incidents of sexual harassment. I recently reported these issues to my team leader, but no action has been taken. It feels as though this kind of frat-like behavior is normalized in the workplace.
I’m at a crossroads now, unsure whether I should voluntarily resign or wait to be terminated so I can apply for EI while I look for another job.

Matter of fact, don't sign anything (not that this is a likely scenario for a sales job).
The bigger risk is how afraid most people are of being fired, they often think it 'looks better' (to future employers) to quit vs get fired, but this is almost never the case when it's one vs the other. You're going to get the same type of reference (none, or not one you can count on) without the EI payout.
I've known lots of people screw themselves out of benefits they are entitled to this way. I've also been fired, and went on to become employed again, while keeping my XP on my resume- just have to be crafty and have prepared ways around reference checks and such. It's never really that serious.
