What are your poverty finance tips for moving?

Post Body

I'm just going to lay out some basic facts about my situation, I know everyone's is different.

Within the next year my partner and I have to make an 800km move for important family reasons. We make 75k/year between us but our take-home is roughly 60k/year. Our current living situation is kind of affordable as our rent is low, but between that and car payments, gas (death to the O&G industry), food, utilities and phone/internet there's not a ton to spare.

The cost of a move, up front, is about $10,000. That may be an underestimate tbh. It's gonna take us YEARS to save that up. Thats assuming a car or dental emergency doesn't wipe us out. We have an LOC we haven't touched for $40,000 and no credit cards. I'm reluctant to put anything substantial on credit, maybe $2000 or so. We currently have $3000 from tax returns but we need serious mechanical work on our vehicle.

Getting a job in another city is another challenge. Can it really be done? It seems impossible. Ditto housing. We have 2 cats, as well, to think about.

Any and all advice would be amazing. I'm a little overwhelmed. How did you manage your poverty finance long distance move?
