Finally have almost $5000 saved up. Haven't had this much in savings since I got married in 2007. It's been a struggle. At times we'd be down to the last $1 at the end of the month. Wife struggled to find a full time job teaching up until last year. Health insurance was eating us alive. We have not received our stimulus yet, but it is just about exactly what we owe on our credit card $3400. I plan to pay it off with that as soon as we get it. Now I'll have to determine where to snowball the $100 per month that I was paying to the card to. We have 2 car payments, and one school loan payment left besides the farm payment, that just about pays for itself, Maybe not this year the way grain price is, but it will be alright. There's a little bit of residual funds in the farm account. School loan is about $13000 left on it. It will not be forgiven as it's a private one. The other one she has is in forbearance until her 5 years of teaching is up and she can apply for forgiveness. I owe about the same on my truck. We're probably one of the few that the cornavirus hasn't affected as much yet. I farm, and it will hit with these low grain prices, but as of now I'm in decent shape. I keep the farm finances separate from the household. Wife is home teaching. Not driving 20 miles to work everyday. She only had to fill up with gas twice last month and I didn't at all. The kids dance has been halted so we have no expense driving them 10 miles to practice 3 nights a week. Dance is free for them as my step sister runs the dance studio. Normally the gas card bill comes in at around $200. It was $49 for this past month. This has also stopped us spending on eating out a night or two a week during dance nights. For everyone that's struggling, hang in there. It gets better when you least expect it. 6 months ago we were still pretty much paycheck to paycheck hoping they'd cover our expenses. I planned it would be this way for the next several years until the farm got paid off, but to my surprise barring any emergency expense I'm doing okay for now.
