Why are eggs so expensive?

I haven’t bought eggs in like a month. They were about $1.50 when I last bought them. I was going to buy some tonight and they were $4.22 for a 12 pack. What the hell happened the last month that made them triple in price? This happened one time before too. Seems like more price gouging by the egg companies.
