how can I better improve this guy? just got from trader Joe's a month ago and haven't repotted but have seen a lot of new leaf sprouting!

I would also clip that yellowing leaf off. For fertilizer, the miracle grow plant food hand pump bottles are my favorite. You could use Tropical or Indoor, they have both and both are fine for this plant. Give it a pump 1-2 times a month when you water, don’t water more than once a week at most, if the leaves are yellowing I’d guess overwatering rather than under watering, and give it lots of light to produce those pretty golden leaves!
