Calculating Data Storage Costs For A No-Budget Feature
Post Body

Lol, I know. A no-budget feature is absurdly crazy. Long story short, it's too late to turn back now.

I still have a lot to learn about post-production hardware and software in terms of how they work together, but the need to calculate data storage costs will be upon me before I have time to fully educate myself. Every penny is coming out of my pocket, in all likelihood, so while quality is the goal, it must be achieved through frugality.

I'm trying to determine the bare minimum cost of a RAID setup. My questions are:

What's the minimum read and write speed I will need from a RAID for editing 4K 12-bit lossless RAW in Resolve with real-time playback after adding color nodes, masks, etc.?

What's the minimum number of discs I would need in a RAID in order to get that speed? Can I do it with 7,200 RPM discs, or do I need 10,000 RPM?

What type of RAID enclosure would I need for such a setup (as I noticed different ones vary in cost by a great deal)?

For that matter, what is the minimum read and write speed required by a single SSD for the above-mentioned quality of video?

My research shows I would require a bare minimum read and write speed of 400MB/s at that quality level. Is this correct?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!
